WORLD OF DOLLS
An exhibition about dolls made for Gender Museum Denmark in 2010. My access to the museum’s collection of dolls resulted in an installation combined with a series of staged photographs shown as photogravures.
Dolls are fascinating and important figures to humans and have numerous cultural meanings. We see ourselves in them; they speak of the drama and fragility of life, of presence and absence, life, death, love, beauty and much more…
The question of gender roles is very relevant dealing with modern dolls.
However, dolls do not belong solely to the world of children and everyday life. Many cultures believe that dolls have magical qualities. The appearance of the dolls speak about the ways in which we decode and connect the exterior and the interior, body and psyche.
The photogravures were also shown at Renke Gallery, Hangzhou, China, at IMPACT 9, 2015.
